A three level residence, perched on a hill side with a site gradient of a 6m drop across a 15m site width.
Designed for a dutch client with a semi-disabled wife, the house required a design without any level variations on any of the 3 levels and with an interlinking 3 stop elevator.
The lower ground floor contains an entertainment centre with a view-in pool and Koi pond and a studio with a panoramic view of the entire Southern Johannesburg.
The design rationale was based on the romanticism of the Art Deco style, reminiscent of an era gone by, specifically with its contexts rooted in an ocean liner of that era, the Normandie, hence its curvature of decks panoramically capturing the surrounding vista. We have aptly named the style Neo Deco or Art Deco Revivalist.
A slanted concrete roof slab, affords an even, almost mystical transition between single and double volumes.
